If you've been wanting to try those new sandwiches over at Weeneez but haven't been able to get over there during the week.. new hours are in play:

Monday thru Saturday: 9am-9pm.

so get over there for dinner while it's still going on..

Remember Weeneez? Of course you do!
One would think I have forgotten about them since I haven't talked about them for a while. I admit I have a problem with mornings, I'm not so good at them. I'm good if I know I need to be somewhere, but without structure, I seem to slow down quite a bit.
Suffice to say this post is benefiting in a way by my not getting my act together in time for breakfast. ;P So instead, it's an early lunch today at Weeneez. It's been long enough that there were a few changes:
NEW HOURS
Weeneez is now open Monday through Saturday 9am to 4pm. Breakfast is served 9am to 11am and is limited to egg sandwiches. Full Breakfast is served Saturdays from 9am to Noon.
NEW DELI SANDWICHES
Julie is now featuring fresh made Italian Sub and Roast Beef sandwiches..

Sound good?? YES!
So good in fact that we ordered one of each.

Roast Beef with Cheddar cheese and the mayo and horseradish mustard.

The Italian Sub.. lots of meat, a savory Italian flavor.
Speaking for myself, I had to take a "halftime" between the two halves as it was a very satisfying, filling sandwich. The sandwich served me well for both my breakfast and lunch.
Suffice to say I fell off the Weight Watcher wagon a few weeks ago, but this is easily a sandwich I would want to order yet again... I could have one half for lunch and save the other half for my dinner. It is quite filling.
Julie noted that she may be getting some fresh baked La Brea bread in the future. I found the sandwich fine regardless, but fresh La Brea Bakery bread would make an excellent sandwich even better I would think.
The total for 2 sandwiches and drinks came to about 17bucks, so still very affordable and very delicious.
Vegetarians need not worry.. there's a soy dog and a tofurky dog available on the hotdog menu.. and the breakfast has some non-meat offerings. With Ash Wednesday coming up it might be something to consider to stop by and I may try one of the soy dogs finally.

Biscuits & Sausage Gravy served Saturday only..

so that's what I had. A very nice hot breakfast on a cool Saturday morning.. a nice welcome back to the neighborhood.
**please note: Weeneez will be closed Christmas Day and through the weekend after in celebration of the holidays.
It's Saturday so of course it's breakfast at Weeneez! A prior attempt on Labor Day was fruitless, but today was perfect! Got there around Noon today, and ordered the made to order omelete.. (your choice of 3 items listed) and I chose cheddar, spinach and mushrooms..

I got a side order of applewood bacon and it also came with tost or English Muffin. SeanYoda was with me and ordered the Eggs Bennedict.
While there, a USC student, Brian, was there talking to Julie.. and as we found out later, he was working on a project for school. Originally there to shoot some pick up shots for his film, he asked if we'd liked to be interviewed for his class assignment. I volunteered Sean. ;)
So while he was being interviewed I got a couple shots myself. ;)
OOPS! Not sure where folks ended up having breakfsst.. went by Weeneez around noon to find this:

Guess that daily breakfast starts tomorrow perhaps!?
Say, you're wanting breakfast on Labor Day?

I hope you didn't forget that Weeneez has breakfast? Yes Weeneez has breakfast *now* every day of the week starting Labor Day, that's tomorrow, the 1st of September! Breakfast is served from 10am-2pm & the 2.99 breakfast special (which I hear is pretty popular) is from 10-11am, just like the big sign in the window says.. ;P
Weeneez is at 5th & Spring of course!

I plan to start my weekend off with breakfast at Weeneez. Julie Rico may not be doing brunch on Sundays but she still has some breakfast items available (along with her famous regular menu) available Saturdays.
She opens at 11am.. I'm hungry already!
edit: Eggs Benedict I had for brunch:

served w/ hash browns, and english muffin (and I ordered diet coke) OMG! It was amazingly good!
ps: Since I am keeping track of my expenses, I thought I might start a new regular thing called "how I'm spending my money" or something like that. It might be food reviews, or film reviews, jazz clubs or whatever.. I haven't worked it out. but figure it'll be an easy way to keep up on things, and get an added post from it. Yes, it's a bit of fluff. Then again, so is this blog. ;) (just hopefully not too fluffy!)
